Scandal Of Grace
When I was a kid, I was told that every time I sinned, I drove one
more nail into the hand of Jesus.
Then I thought about the impact my life had had, from that little lie
to that big insult and I came to the brilliant conclusion that it was
impossible for us all as sinners to have the same Christ, I needed my
own Jesus.
So I got a personalized saviour with a custom made crown of thorns and
hands big enough that my nails wouldn't fill up.
When I was a teen, I heard of grace, of how we have been freed on the
cross and how we are no longer slaves.
I stopped thinking like a child and found a way to do away with my
brilliant conclusions and my foolish ways.
I learnt that "he that is born of the spirit is not under the law" and
"whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved"
So I sank deeper into sin with the knowledge that nothing abounds as
much as his grace
I told my self that the law of the spirit saves me from condemnation
in heaven and on earth therefore I was free to sin since I had been
freed from the law of sin and death.
I would party on Saturday and on Sunday wear my Christianity like a shirt.
I mean, let's face it, accepting Christ once guarantees eternal rest.
But something is amiss cause I'm imprisoned in my sin, and though I
try to stake a claim, I'm not free within my chain.
And this truth that I keep twisting is what many now believe in but
with our paradigms forever shifting, it's toward hell that we keep
drifting.
As I put my pen to work on this piece of work, I realize my life may
not even be half as right as the words I write but that is not the
only thing I realize because the rise of Christ signified that we
should arise from this life of strife, put to death our flesh and
start to work in light. I realize that grace, like insurance, does NOT
permit you to sin but exempts you from the consequences of sin because
if we really think about it, insurance, like grace, fixes your
accidents but not every accident ends with a minor injury, sometimes
death could be hidden within. Maybe it would be easier if we all come
to the realization that grace is meant for service, not for sin!
It's unfortunate how so little the work of Jesus has come to mean to
some of us. Maybe it's because the greatest gift given was not wrapped
in a parcel, but hanged on cross, not for a King in a castle, but for
every one of us and in that one act, a father was torn, in that one
act was the death of a son. In that one act was the purest of love, in
that one act, we are heirs with the son.
But how did satan get in? how did we let him win? How do we say we are
Christ's redeemed and still fall prey to sin?
Perhaps we should blame it on our earthly nature and then blame it on
Adam (Ay-dam) and while we play the blame game, let's also blame
satan.
But we are really the ones at fault and still the ones stuck in the
rut because we take in everything the internet feeds us and bind
ourselves even after Christ has freed us.
We seem to have forgotten the peculiarity of us as a people, the fact
that we are royal, not just an ordinary priesthood, the beauty of the
life that we've all been called into and the fact that no amount of
lies will ever corrupt this truth.
We are chosen generation that is young and unashamed, we are free and
hate our chains, we are brave cause Christ is our gain and we look
upon sin with disdain knowing that our claim to fame lies in our act
of proclaiming his name.
And in all these, I want to point you to a light that's shining,
illuminating not blinding... But it's not about the words or the rhyme
scheme, it about Christ and his rising.
